What could cause lumps, the size of quarters and sore to touch like a bruise, appear on my daughters lower shins?

Posted by dinesmom

My seventeen year old daughter noticed little knots in her knees and a few bump on the lower part of one of her shins. A few weeks later the lumps became noticeable on both legs. The bumps/lumps are sore like a bruise and are only appear on her lower shins. There are still little knots in her knees.

If Hypothyroidism runs in our family and she is on Thyroid support, could this be an autoimmune problem?

Could it be a reaction to something, or is it a bacterial infection? Maybe toxins in her system?

I agree with Dr. Gwenn (as usual). Your description could be many things, and you need an experienced physician to see your daughter to figure it out. One intriguing condition that comes to mind from your description is Erythema Nodosum, which you should ask your doctor about when you see her. Good luck.
I have this same problem. I have no history of thyroid problems. My lumps have no color but hurt like a bruise and there about an inch in diameter.  I only have them on my ankles/ shins and they go away and return in slightly different places. Its really weird.
I was diagnosed several years ago with Valley Fever(coccidomycosis) and I had red sore knots under the sking on my legs .
