unexpected complications

Posted Sep 12 2010 12:00am
Ava was admitted last night and had surgery this morning.  The disc was too tight on her g tube, causing restricted blood flow and death to the wall of her stomach.  The internal disc migrated out of the dead stomach tissue and into the abdominal wall.  She has an infection from this also.   Surgery this morning was successful in saving most of the stoma and repairing the damage.  She's on a few different antibiotics and is on GI rest.  Nothing in the belly for a couple days to help healing.

Ironically, yesterday was the cancer survivors' picnic at the zoo.  We went for a while.  Ava was very tender and started running a fever of 103, so we left. I called the GI Dr on call and took her in.  I had no idea that Ava was so sick at that time.

I don't know how long she'll be in patient, but she's doing well right now.  She's trying to play while laying down.  Progress.
