should nose be evaluated by physician?

Hi, My 11 yr. old son was playing last Thurs. 8/20/09 and collided with another boy. They were playing with large Nerf guns and the plastic gun my son was holding went upright hitting him in the nose. His nose did not bleed from inside, it did swell, and he has some bruising on the right side of his nose. He says it only hurts when I touch on the bruise. My concern is when I run my fingers down the right and left side (left side looks good)sides of his nose I feel a slight bump on the right side where the bruise is. I cannot say that I see any crookedness. I have not taken him to the doctor because after some internet searching I read it is sometimes better to wait until swelling goes down. I would greatly appreciate any feedback and thank you for reading a worried mothers woes.
