I haven't posted in a while as quite frankly my time is in short supply these days. Having two kids is a lot harder than I thought it would be. Luckily, Robbie is a very strong boy and we haven't had to deal with the same amount of chest infections as we did with Alina during her first year. As a matter of fact, he's hardly been ill at all and when he is, you wouldn't be able to tell. He doesn't spike fever, doesn't cry, doesn't complain, just puts up with it. We've had to give him antibiotics a few times but otherwise, touch wood, he's been doing great. It's amazing when I look at him now, chunky and smiley to remember the baby in NICU. Those moments seem such a long time ago. He's caught up brilliantly and without any physiotherapy either. At the moment, he's fascinated by his toes which he's trying to figure out how we can suck :0). He's turning over onto his tummy and he really enjoys kicking his legs and standing up. Initially the doctors and the dietitian were very concerned about his weight. I never really understood why. Yes, he is on the bottom centile but he looks really well and chunkier than Alina's ever been. He's in 3-6 months clothes and outgrowing them very quickly. He was put initially on special infant milk which is higher in calories than normal formula. It was hard to get him used to the bottle because he loved breastfeeding. I am not sure how much it helped either. One thing that really helped though is that he's a very hungry baby. He used to wake up twice during the night- only once now if we're lucky :0)- and once he got a hang of the bottle he refused breastfeeding ( at 5.5 months whilst we were on holiday in Menorca). I tried weaning him onto solids earlier, at 5 monhts, just as I did with Alina, but he wasn't really interested. I tried again this week and he is much better and seems to enjoy eating proper food. Otherwise, he's a lovely baby. He always has a smile on his little face and loves it when people pay attention to him. He doesn't like being on his own and really likes it when Alina plays with him. We are looking forward to when they will be interacting together a bit more. Alina had a hard time initially and it took her a few months to get used to having him around all the time. But now she's brilliant and she's really grown up. She likes playing the big sister and doing things like feeding him- the nappy changing novelty wore off after a few weeks :0). We have tried hard to make sure she still gets the same love and attention as before but it's been hard because we're both very tired and we don't have that much help. One of the things I was concerned about was whether I will be able to love Robbie as much as I love Alina. I shouldn't have been, I don't have any favourites, I love them both the same. They are both amazing human beings and I will always be amazed at their strenght and resilience.
