My son has a fever, stuffy nose, needs lost of sleep & is having his breathing going fast. What could this be?

It sounds viral. I hope that you are monitoring the breathing closely. If he seems to be struggling, take him to the ER. Children are very good at "getting by"  and then "crashing" quickly. I do not want to scare you, but breathing is nothing to fool with. If you see his skin going in between his ribs when he breaths or he appears to have a dark or bluish color around his mouth, the ER is the best bet. Otherwise, a steamy room made by running the shower on hot for several minutes with the door closed is a good option for breathing difficulties. Cough medicine with an expectorant such as guaifenesin is another safe bet.
