My son has a dark spot on the side of his neck that hurts him like a bruise to the touch.Now his lymph nodes are swollen.Worry?

He's had this dark spot for years. I just noticed it got a little bigger. Also, he recently saw his school nurse to complain of neck pain. Turns out his lymph nodes are a little swollen. Now, his hair is falling out. Not dramatically but it never has before. I already made an appointment for the doctor. Please give me some insight, if possible. Thank you!
