my grandaughter has red blotches on her face; she is 9 yrs. what can it be?

We first noticed the red patch a few days ago.  It seems to be getting larger.  It is located on the side of her face.  She has expressed no pain and seems to be feeling ok.  Should we take her to the doctor?  Thanks
