I was talking with a mother the other day who said her daughter was upset that the Health Care Act was not declared unconstititional. "Why", I asked. The mother said her daughter was a teacher and made less than $35,000 a year and couldn't afford to buy health insurance. I explained to the woman that because her daughter made between $25,000 and $35,000, she could receive supplemental funds to help buy insurance. Of course, if she lived in a state where the Republican governors have vowed not to enforce the law, she may have a bit of a fight. If the governors carry out their threats, then the federal government will take over the needed help that the health care law provides. These Repulbican governors are also threatening not to take federal dollars for Medicaid expansion. How can these men possibly hurt poor people that need help just because they want to show how much they hate President Obama? They certainly show no compassion for poor people in their states and of course they all have wonderful salaries, benefits, and health insurance.
Then of course, Mr. Romney vows to repeal the Health Care Law but has not given any plan to provide health insurance for the 30 plus million people who have no health insruance. Even many of the men who are fighting the terrible Colorado fires are temporary employees and have no health insurance. They are at risk for terrible injuries or death and don't have health insurance? What kind of a caring nation are we? Yes, if they are injured on the job they could apply for Workman's Compensation but getting this coverage is a long and often convulted process.
