May is brain tumor awareness month. I'm sure that if you have read this blog more than a few times, you are well aware of how devastating brain tumors can be. And I don't think I'll ever be able to emphasize enough just how low the funding is for pediatric cancer, especially Gavin's type. It's disheartening to think about how little money is given for the children. So much fundraising is done in this country for cancer. And that is awesome. But very little money actually ends up in the hands of the those that are seeking ways to cure childhood cancers, even if they have pictures of the kids in their advertising. And yes, childhood cancer requires very different research than the adult types.
Let that thought brew around in your mind for awhile, especially if there are in kids in your life right now that you couldn't imagine having to fight cancer with limited research funds.
We are in a very different place than we were 4 years ago for this month. In 2008, we were new to the club, so to speak. Yeah, some call it a club...that you wish you never joined. Regardless, we were just starting out on the journey and were shocked and scared.
