I Believe

Posted Jun 06 2011 12:23am
I believe in a God that cares.
I believe in a God that comforts.
I believe in a God that rescues.
I believe in a God that redeems.
I believe in a God that knows.
I believe in a God that understands.
I believe in a God that holds.
I believe in a God that leads.
I believe in a God that heals.

Two nights ago I picked up my Bible to read from a selected reading list that is designed to help you read through the entire Bible.  And I was amazed at what was in store for me on that very specific night.  It said to read Mathew 7, 8, and 9.

For those that are not as familiar with the Bible, Mathew is the first book in the New Testament (the back portion of the Bible).  It tells the story of the life of Jesus.  His birth, his teaching, his healing, his crucifixion, his resurrection, and his ascension back into Heaven.  Consider reading it if you haven't yet done so.  If you don't own a Bible, go to http://www.biblegateway.com/  and just type "Mathew" in the search box.  You can read it online.  While it's considered to be "a book," don't let that intimidate you.  It's not all that long.  Choose a version like the New International Version or (my personal favorite) the New Living Translation.  The Bible is not as difficult to understand as many seem to think it is.

Okay, so back to my story.  The reading list said to read Mathew 7, 8, and 9.  And so I did.  Let me give you some of the highlights that blessed me that night.
  • The Effective Prayer - encouraging words about asking in prayer and receiving what you pray for (Mathew 7:7-9)
  • The Narrow Gate - reminder that the gateway to God is more narrow and the road more difficult (Mathew 7:13-14)
  • Jesus Heals a Man with Leprosy (Mathew 8:1-4)
  • The Faith of a Roman Officer - Jesus heals a sick servant without even going to see him because the servant's officer believed that Jesus could do so.  (Mathew 8:5-13)
  • Jesus Heals Many People (Mathew 8:14-17)
  • Jesus Calms The Storms - He silenced  a raging storm, helping his disciples increase their faith. (Mathew 8:23-27)
  • Jesus Heals Two Demon-Possessed Men (Mathew 8:23-34)
Starting to see a theme here?  But wait, there's more.
  • Jesus Heals a Paralyzed Man (Mathew 9:1-8)
  • Jesus Heals in Response to Faith - Jesus heals a woman that had been bleeding for 12 years.  And he brings a young girl back to life.  (Mathew 9:18-26)
  • Jesus Heals the Blind (Mathew 9:27-34)
Some may call it a "coincidence" that these were the scriptures for me to read on this particular night.  But I do not.  To help my point, I will be so bold as to share with you what I had written just moments before in my prayer journal.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear Jesus,
You know my anquish better than I could ever articulate it.  I struggle to find words better than, "Please, not again!"  Have I taken the past two years for granted?  Could it be true?
I ask that you heal Gavin of any and all cancer cells that may be taking up residence in his body.  It is so hard to imagine that relapse is your will for his little life!  I know that you healed him the first time.  I beg you to grant him a clear MRI again.
Please grant us peace during this time of great unknowns.  Remind us daily to turn to you alone with our fears.  Fill me with your Holy Spirit.  May I draw closer to you because of this.
Pediatric cancer makes me so sad.
I love you,
Stacie
Do any of you still find this to be nothing more than a coincidence?
I believe in a God that speaks.
I believe in a God that loves.
I believe in a God that heals.
I do not know God's plan for Gavin's life.  However, I do know what He is capable of.  And I know that He wants me to ask for it, expecting Him to answer accordingly.  Thanks for joining me in praying for my little boy and asking others to do the same.
Much love,
