Helpful Resources for Patients, Nurses, Medical Students and Others

Posted Sep 25 2011 5:43pm

I am frequently asked for information about good medical resources and there are a wealth of books and Web sites that can be very helpful to anyone who has a medical question. This can be patients, nurses, medical students, house staff and other medical personnel. One of the reason that I wrote 101 Ways To The Best Medical Care was to provide a great deal of medical information and pages of resources. Often, too, others send me specific resources. In the last few days, Brad Morgans kindly sent me information about a Web site for which he writes articles. A recent article of his gives 25 Essential Reference Books Every Surgical Nurse Should Own. I asked an excellent nurse who supervises several other nurses if this would be valuable and she said it was. The Web site is http://lpntobsnonline . The article can be found at that site by adding /2011/25-essential-books-every-surgical-nurse-should-own.

Other good references are: The Managed Care Advocate at; www.comed.com/empower, American Board of Medical Specialists at www.abms.org ,  Medicare at www.medicare.gov , National Protection and Advocacy at: www.protectionandadvocacy.com , Center for Medicare Advocacy at: www.medicareadvocacy.org , Health Insurance Rate Comparison at: www.ehealthinsurance.com , Mayo Clinic at: www.mayohealth.org , Veterans Health Administration at: www.va.gov , and American Hospice Foundation at www.americanhospice.org .

If readers have other resources they have found valuable, I would appreciate knowing about them.
