I believe we were all born to read and enjoy books. It's part of my mission to make Tommy as much of a book lover as I am.
Right now he loves reading stories with me. I can't wait for the day I see him pick up a book and read it himself. But there are several steps to go through before Tom does that. He has to learn to read! Now learning to read is a process for any child and Braille is just the means Tom will use to do that.
But Tom doesn't have the benefit of experiencing language everywhere like sighted children do. Seeing letters everywhere reinforces their significance long before a child can read. I put Braille labels all around the house and on his toys but I can't Braille the world. I have to use what I can to give Tom what he needs to learn.
It would be really nice to give Tommy Marty the SMART Brailler! You remember Marty, right? GO check out Typin' Tommy if you need a refresher. The auditory feedback (it says what you type) was irresistible to Tommy. I know it would make learning Braille easier for Tommy.
Beginning on Monday August 26th you can go to WonderBaby and vote for Tommy to win Marty!
Now all the children who got to visit with Marty in this Backpacking SMART Brailler project would be deserving of Marty...but I still hope you will go and vote for my Tommy!
On Monday I'll provide the link for voting. That's also Tommy's first day of school. I think it's a sign!
