Gifts that are granted so don't take them for granted

Before Gage was born this is a list of things I foolishly took for granted.
I took for granted being able to breathe. I took breathing through my nose and mouth for granted. Now I see him breathe through a trach and I realize, breathing is a gift, each and every day we breathe we have been given a gift.
Walking, and running is so easy for me, and I never put one ounce of thought how it may not be so easy for others. He struggles and I feel so lucky, but if I could trade places with him I would do so without hesitation or questions.
Talking, and singing, I can be heard. I never thought how others could find this difficult. How I would love to hear him babble, how I would love to hear him talk non stop. I am grateful for vowel sounds right now.
Laughing, the sound of laughter. I love to hear people laugh, mostly I would love to hear him laugh. Laughter is music to my ears and when I am able to hear him it's going to sound like a goddamn symphony!
The nape of a baby's neck, the silky softness, how I yearn to caress his, even to see it bare would put a smile on my face.
I realize these are gifts and I shall never take them for granted again. Please now give him these gifts and I shall never take anything in this whole wide world for granted ever again.
I realize these are gifts and I shall never take them for granted again. Please now give him these gifts and I shall never take anything in this whole wide world for granted ever again.
Love Gage's Mommy.
