Five Things

Through Love That Max , I learned about the Easter Seals Sibling Study . It is a study of adults who have a sibling with a disability, their relationship, and how the disability affects their lives. Most people surveyed reported a positive relationship with the sibling, even though they faced financial and emotional challenges as a result of the disability. Now, I have every reason to believe that Daphne will be independent when she grows up, but I also know that her health will always have an impact in Lucy’s life.

Emily Rapp’s writing always cuts right through to my very core. In  this essay , she discusses relationships as the single mother of a dying little boy. This quote alone, makes me so very sad: “Grief morphs people; it dissolves direction, focus, desire, supposedly unbreakable bonds.”

Nicholas Kristof’s  annual giving guide  - in the spirit of less stuff for those who already have too much.

Can ebooks and libraries coexist?  After a torrid love affair with my Kindle, I am back to real books from the library. Why? The instant reading gratification brought by lightning speed downloading was getting expensive. Also, the Kindle broke three times and finally Amazon decided it was my fault. Not cool. Where do you stand on this? Paper, e-ink or pixels?

A very happy Chanukah to those of you celebrating the Festival of Lights, which begins Saturday night.
