First Lady Michelle Obama was in Philadelphia on Wednesday to announce some new “moves” in her “Let’s Move!” initiative.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter introduced her to the stage. “It’s always an honor to have the First Lady of the United States of America here for this great announcement,” said Nutter.
Speaking from the Lenfest Police Athletic Center on N. 10th Street in Hunting Park, Mrs. Obama talked about the progress that’s been made since she launched her program in 2010, but says more needs to be done.
The First Lady announced a new step to help more communities leaders join in the fight against childhood obesity. She encouraged elected officials to sign up for Let’s Move City, Town, or County.
The leaders who join must commit to five achievable goals for their community. Mrs. Obama said this isn’t a “one-size fits all” type of problem, and this new part of the initiative will recognize that every city will have a different approach.
