Ava's entire life she has been hooked up to one machine or another. Apnea monitors, pulse oximeters, oxygen, suction machines, nebulizers... It's highly likely that we'll be adding a g-tube to the mix in the next few months.
If I've ever wondered about her heartrate, all I would have to do is look over and know every single time her heart beats. If I wanted to hear it I could turn the volume up on the Masimo and listen. If she were to drop her oxygen sats while crying, I'd turn her flowrate up. And so on...
All these machines that were so intimidating before are now things I can't imagine life without. Do parents really raise babies without an apnea monitor or pulse ox?! YES! I have done it with Dakota and Christian. If Ava gets sick, we can usually bypass waiting rooms (with many dirty looks from others waiting). It's so astounding to me how different raising a "medical baby" is compared to a typical one. It's night and day. I now automatically wonder what's wrong with quiet, non stridorous babies when I'm near them.
Life has changed so much in the last 21 months. I honestly don't know what I would've done without a few of my blog/fellow medical baby moms. I love you all and those beautiful children you have:)
