Lately Audrey has shown a real interest in the days of the week. I'm always being asked, "Mom, what day is it?" Or, "Mom, is it {insert day of the week here}?" We've started talking about things we do on specific days. In case you haven't picked up, we're pretty routine oriented. Mondays are playgroup. Tuesdays are PT. Wednesdays are IE and grocery shopping. Thursdays Audrey goes to Mr. Skip while Stella and I do OT and Costco. Fridays Audrey goes to school while Stella and I go to ST. We've added in our summertime Friday night activity ~ concerts on the town green. Saturdays and Sundays are more flexible, but she knows that they're "family fun days" and that, for the most part, it's a chance for us to do things together as a family. So, it's really neat to see her make those connections. To know that today is {insert day of the week} and that, on that day we do {insert name of activity}. We've started "working" on the order of the days of the week and knowing how many days it will be until we do {insert name of activity}.

Just this morning we were talking about birthdays. We always talk about whose birthday is next and then go through the order (i.e. my birthday is next {June 14th, for those of you sending gifts}, then Rosie's {in September}, then Audrey and Wally {in January}, then Stella {in April}). When we were talking about the birthday thing this morning, she said, "Stella's birthday is in April." My jaw dropped. I don't remember ever specifically mentioning the months, but we must have. And she picked up on it.
Crazy. I told her, "Yes, that's right". Then we started talking about whose birthdays are in what months. Then how the months of the year are "arranged". Pretty neat. Now, she's obviously not going to remember, yet, who was born on {insert date here}, so don't be expecting your personalized gift from Audrey.....but it's a step in the right direction, and a great way to learn about months of the year.
