Building Self Confidence With Kids in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake, Virginia

My heart breaks for children today who face challenges to their self esteem; however, I believe there is hope for each kid. One source of hope can be a well-structured martial arts program. Through teaching Karate Kids, I have had the privilege of helping children regain their self-confidence, enhancing their personal self-esteem, while losing any excess weight and developing life skills.
Being overweight can be one major source of low self esteem, especially for kids. Martial arts have proven to be an effective, safe method of battling weight and of course increasing one’s personal perception of themselves. Because Karate classes provide a standard schedule of activity, this is an easy way to keep regularly exercising with both short and long term goals. Different from the latest diet fad, Changing Lives Martial Arts teach children discipline, so that they will know how to exercise regularly throughout their life.
I have also found martial arts to be successful methods of developing life skills in children. Through well taught karate classes, kids learn the self-discipline necessary to achieve their goals. A karate belt or rank system assist the student with creating a fundamentally sound goal each training cycle. Belts provide very tangible, attainable targets that are a visual aid for students to maintain on target. Yet, they do not come immediately. Children attending our Changing Lives Karate For Kids program obtain discipline while achieving each level of advancement. They require some exercise and commitment. Knowing how to achieve goals is a skill anyone can benefit from, and this will help them for life.
Martial arts are the most suited activity to changing children’s lives. For children who have not played a sport, going out for the team in 7th grade can be very daunting when all their peers have been playing for a few years already. In martial arts, everyone is welcome. They are not based on a competitive atmosphere. Rather, they focus on the advancement of each person and their life change preparing them for the live challenges they have ahead of them.
