7 red spots on thigh with gray spot in middle of each

My son lives in NH. and is 23. He has 7 red spots on the right side of his thigh. In the middle of each red spot is a grayish blister. His grouin and abdemt on the right side hurts also. He called the doctors and the doctor gave him medication on the phone. He lives out of state from us and we r worried. What can this be and what should HE do?? Thank You soooooooooo much Debbie
