Welcome to the Chic Runner! I named my site that because I think it’s okay to look fabulous when working out and working out makes you look fabulous! It just kind of grew from there. My real name is Danica and I fall in the category of “twenty something”. I fell in love with running when I joined my junior high cross-country team, but I also ran track and played soccer and ran cross country in high school. Since then, I have competed in all different distances of races, but I must admit that my heart belongs to the half marathon distance. I finished my first Marathon in May 2009 with a time of 4:28. It was a humbling and one of a kind experience to say the least. I look forward to blogging about my journey to more races, and more life experiences.

A lot of things have shaped me to the person I am today. I went to a small private college and graduated with a Bachelors in Communications and a minor in Creative Writing. One of the biggest changes that I’ve been through though was that I lost my mom my Junior year of college. When she passed away, I stopped running all together. I don’t exactly know why, but I couldn’t run anymore. When I coached a small high school cross-country and track program during my college years, at one of the first meets I attended, I cried at the start of the race, which was totally unexpected. It was then that I realized how much I loved running and how much I missed it.

hb1redoWhen I finally decided to start running again, things began to fall back into place. I got my life back on track, and now I like to compete in races when I can. I love exercising and working out, and all things related to running, fitness, being healthy and bettering our lives. Nothing can make you feel better than being healthy and achieving goals. Okay, enough cheerleader from me.

After graduating from college, I changed in a lot of ways. Being an adult is tough, but I have learned so much about me as a person and what is important to me. I reside in a lovely beach town in Southern California where the weather is wonderful and the running paths are usually flat and along the ocean. I love watching all different sports and I’m a big Angel fan, light up that halo! I currently work in the Advertising field as an Account Executive and I love my job. I am obsessed with all things social media and I’m lucky enough to have a job that immerses me in that field daily.

San Diego Rock and Roll Marathon

Since getting back into the running world, it has become a passion of mine and I love to share life stories, running stories and pictures on my blog. I know not everyone will agree with everything I post on my blog, but it’s my place online to share what I want, and I’m grateful for that. I have met countless people who are so encouraging and inspiring through my blog and I hope that whoever comes across my blog enjoys whatever they may find. In high school, I was much faster than I am today, but throughout my life experiences, related to running or not, I have come to realize it’s not about the time or your place, but the journey it takes you to get to that finish line.
