So, If You're Tired of the Same Old Story...Turn Some Pages

Posted Aug 24 2008 12:06am
The line above is from my favorite song by REO Speedwagon titled "Roll With the Changes" (see below.) It's one of those songs that no matter what kind of mood I'm in, I'm always a little happier after I listen to it. For example, when my college roommates and I were driving to Florida for spring break, we wound up getting lost and driving several hours out of our way. I remember rather than crying, I put my REO cassette in the tape player (of my red Chevy Beretta) and played "Roll With the Changes" as loud as it would go, singing along with it the whole time. My roommates (who preferred listening to Alabama over REO) didn't quite know what to think of my musical outburst but I remember I felt better afterward and we all ended up laughing over the whole thing, too.

Hopefully REO will have its same soothing effect on me when I see them later this week. My mom is treating me to an REO concert on Saturday (they're going to be performing outdoors at Elizabethtown's upcoming family-friendly Fourth of July celebration.) She was planning on going with a group of friends, wound up having an extra ticket and invited me to go with them. I found out ages 6 and under were free so I asked if I could bring James along as I have passed on my REO appreciation to him through my frequent playing of a greatest hits CD in the car. "Don't Let Him Go" is his favorite.

While I know the evening will be challenging due to it being a long night, etc. I figure it's definitely worth trying. Going to the concert itself would be fun but sharing it with my son will make it an experience we'll both always remember. Keep on rollin!
