As I'm anxiously awaiting to get my pre-ordered copy of James Taylor's "One Man Band" cd/dvd combo in the mail, it got me to thinking about my favorite James Taylor songs. Although I love so many of his songs, this is my absolute favorite. It's one, too, that many people are not as familiar with unlike songs such as "Fire and Rain," "Shower the People," "Carolina in my Mind," and so on (which, of course, are all wonderful songs, too.) I think one of the reasons I love this song so much is the meaning I take from it. The name of the song is "You Can Close Your Eyes."
When I listen to it, I hear the story of someone who has been saved by the grace of God and is at peace with their passing. The Lord saved me when I was 16 so this song definitely makes me happy whenever I hear it. Whenever the day comes and I do go to meet the Lord, I've asked that this song be played (among some of my favorite hymns) at my funeral. No, I'm not expecting it to be anytime soon! You'll notice in the clip that it's from a while back (when Mr. Taylor had long hair!) but his voice sounds so beautiful. Give it a listen; it's short but oh, so sweet.
