Udi’s Buns at Red Robin –Yes, It is TRUE!

Posted Dec 02 2011 10:30am

It is so true!  Udi's buns are at Red Robin!  I had gotten an email from Udi's a while back that Red Robin locations in the western states were going to be carrying the buns.  We just don't eat out much and the closest Red Robin to us is Trussville which is about 25 minutes away.   Well, the weekend before Thanksgiving we were in Columbus, GA for a soccer tournament.  We were there Saturday and Sunday.  We had to eat out because where we were staying did not have a kitchen :( .   We ended up eating at Red Robin and Mellow Mushroom on Saturday.  I had called ahead before we went to Red Robin to make sure they had Udi's gluten free hamburger buns.  The girl told me, yes, they do.  So, we get there and I am ordering and the waiter tells me we can get the grilled chicken, but just on the plate, so I continued to tell him that the lady on the phone checked and they do have the buns.  So, he goes and gets the assistant manager who also tells me they have no buns.   I told him also what the girl told me.  He left the table and came back after he checked with the kitchen staff and sure enough, they had the buns!  Yay me for pushing!

Ok, so they brought out these chicken sandwiches.  Mine was the California Chicken Sandwich.  EB got a kids chicken sandwich.  When they came out, I was a little concerned myself because they looked like normal buns!  They weren't small like the ones we get from the store!  They were huge!  EB asked the waiter if he was SURE they were gluten free.  He said yes, he was sure.  Then she just tells me that she is not going to eat the bun because she is scared that it looks like a gluten bun.  I tasted mine first and oh my…"love at first bite!"  It was delightful!  So, I encouraged her to try the bun.  She did…and she LOVED it!  Then all she would eat was the bun, and she left the chicken!  She is not a bread kid anyways, but she was very excited about this bread.  Her comment was "It's been so long since I have had bread, this tastes soooooo good!"

Seriously, if you get a chance to try these new "restaurant style" Udi's buns, you won't be disappointed!
