Star Fruit: Tropical Yum

Posted Jul 13 2011 5:27pm
Hello you... If you haven't already, you might want to for updates to Food Practice and also .

Doesn’t it just make you happy looking at these slices of Star Fruit?  It reminds me of when I was a little girl and I would get star stickers for a job well done.  Colorful stars just seem to create a joyful feeling all around.

Star Fruit or Carambola originates from the Philippines and the South Pacific but has been cultivated throughout the tropics.  Seeing this beauty sold at farmers markets is also a marker that I’m finally back in the paradise of Maui.

The subtly sweet taste of the Star Fruit is very reminiscent of Asian Pears for me, and it is honestly a happy fruit to eat.  It can be eaten raw, cooked, and as the experiment in the picture shows, with other fruit combinations.  I’m still working on a recipe for it, but will share soon, when I work it all out.

Have you had Star Fruit?  Whats your favorite way of eating it?  Share!
