Simply Sweet Shoppe brings gluten-free to a new height!

Terry Mahmoud’s motto is, “Making Food Fun Again.” She believes, just because you are on a gluten-free diet you should not have to settle for sub-par gluten-free offerings.  After trying some of her delectable gluten-free offerings, we are happy to say that she is not skimping on taste, texture or quality.

The Simply Sweet Shoppe is still recognized for its grand selection of chocolates, candies and confectionary treats and now has a dedicated area in the back of the store where Terry is proud to be presenting a gluten-free menu with creative menu items for everyone! In fact, she has completely phased out all the gluten and now only serves gluten free. She has a dedicated area and dedicated equipment like pizza stones and panini presses.

 

Simply Sweet Shoppe still bakes up their regular cookies in a separate area and in a separate oven, this area is completely separated by a wall and no ingredients that contain gluten actually go back into the separate designated area that is Terry’s gluten- free haven.

Jill Zaniker, the owner of The Simply Sweet Shoppe opened with one goal:  “To create a fun, welcoming environment that offers children of all ages the opportunity to indulge their senses.”  We definitely feel she has met that goal!  She has graciously given over this dedicated gluten-free area to Terry.  Jill is also conscious of food allergies and sensitivities.  She even has a list of gluten-free candies and the list also includes those that are nut and peanut free.

The owner, recognizing the importance of gluten free to our community, has incorporated I Heart Keenwah and chocolate covered Turtles from Brooke’s Candy Company, which is a dedicated gluten-free company.

 

Terry started her gluten-free cooking and baking journey when her sister was diagnosed with Celiac disease 5 years ago. She is in the process of launching her own gluten-free product line and is waiting on state approval.  Watch for her line & new name to be released soon!

She is still building her gluten-free product line. Included in that line is a gluten-free flatbread which makes a scrumptious pizza.  We tried the Mediterranean pizza on the GF Greek flatbread with basil pesto, fresh spinach, tomato’s, kalamata olives, feta cheese and mozzarella.  The flatbread cooked up to a crispy perfection and was served with gluten-free tabbouleh salad.    

 

We also thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ Chicken Pizza. This pizza was prepared on cheddar flatbread and covered with Terry’s homemade Carolina BBQ sauce.  She adds pulled slow roasted chicken, tomato’s, bacon and cheddar cheese.  This pizza was flavorful and was not lacking at all in the toppings department.  This is how a pizza should look!

For our sandwich selection, we tried the Turkey Chutney.  The pesto flatbread was a perfect accompaniment to all the great flavors of this sandwich.  It was packed full of smoked turkey, Terry’s homemade chutney, cream cheese, cucumbers, red onions, bacon, and alfalfa sprouts.  We devoured this sandwich and will order this one again!

The gluten-free menu offers sandwiches, salads, kids meals, and more.  She has a variety of gluten-free sweets which range from campfire s’mores, red velvet, pistachio and bubblegum cupcakes. We are a huge fan of her ooey gooey pecan bars. The pineapple cake we tried today was divine!  We wish we had time to try the gluten-free twinkies.

Kudos to Terry who is definitely doing gluten free right!

The current hours at Simply Sweet Shoppe for Terry’s gluten-free offerings are 11 am-2 pm M-F. Saturdays are TBD.  As her business grows, so will her hours, so make sure you stop in and try her new gluten-free menu that offers a wide variety of choices for everyone. 

The hours are subject to change when school starts August 5th.  They will be closed on Mondays for lunch. Terry will be providing gluten-free meals and box lunches to University High School on Mondays and at Midwest Academy every other Wednesday.  You may want to check in on a regular basis to see when Terry is available.  She is also open to making gluten-free birthday cakes, special treats, and wedding cakes.

Stop in and visit the Simply Sweet Shoppe .  You won’t be disappointed! For those of you that will be attending our Gluten Free Living Now Expo October 5th from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm in Carmel, make sure you stop by Terry’s booth and try her gluten-free flatbread pizza……Yumm!
