Product Review: Pure Bars - vegan/ organic

Posted Jan 08 2009 3:02pm

There are  many gluten free snack bars on the market. So what makes a Pure bar so great?

These bars are raw, organic, fruit & nut bars that are cold processed and vegan.  They are also dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free and contains 1 1/2 servings of fruit, 4-5 gram of fiber and 6-7 grams of protein. These gluten free bars are flat, thin and very dense. They are also soft and chewy with a wonderful texture.  I admit, this sounded very impressive and healthy to me, but I hoped it tasted good.

I sampled two flavors- chocolate brownie and cherry cashew.  The verdict?

Chocolate Brownie:  YUM!  This bar has a subtle chocolate flavor with chunks of organic walnuts, just like a real brownie. There is a tangy sweet smell thanks to the date base, but strangely I didn’t taste much of the dates in the bar itself- just a tangy aftertaste. I was thrilled, since I am not a huge fan of dates. This bar is a winner in my book. Ingredients: organic dates, organic walnuts, organic agave nectar, organic almonds, organic cashews, organic brown rice protein, organic cocoa.Rating: 5 stars

Cherry Cashew: I was surprised by this flavor- it has the same tangy smell and taste, thanks to the date base. However, as you eat it, a mild, but fresh cherry flavor builds in your mouth. Again, the chunky nuts are add a soft crunch that is very satisfying. The only aspect I wished I could change was the presence of more cashew flavor, it definately takes a back seat to the cherry.  Ingredients: organic dates, organic cherries, organic walnuts, organic agave nectar, organic almonds, organic cashews, organic brown rice protein.Rating: 4 1/2 stars

I think these bars would be great for traveling or as a quick snack when you are out and about. Since they are softer, you don’t have to worry about them getting crushed and crumbly.

Overall, these are great gluten free snack option, and I look forward to trying their other flavors: wild blueberry, cranberry orange, chocolate chip trail mix, and apple cinnamon.
