This weekend was a whirlwind. We got a new addition to the family late Friday night and she has kept us busy. My mom's dog Lilly made the trek from Minnesota to DC to join our happy (not so little anymore) family. After much debate and discussion we decided we could handle a second dog. Lilly is three and actually spent her first year of life with Beau. I was a little concerned that she was going to totally disrupt Beau's way of life and cause him to feel jealous, neglected and betrayed. See, when Lilly and Beau lived together in Minnesota, Lilly was the dominant one who would come after Beau whenever she felt like it. Granted, she was a puppy but Beau didn't seem to enjoy her type of "play." The only things that outweighed my fear was Lilly's adorable and loving nature and the fact that my mom could use the relief.
Lilly was extremely freaked out after her flight here... she was shaking, barking, whimpering and the only thing that seemed to console her was me holding her tight. We read up on how to introduce (or re-introduce in our case) two dogs that will be living together. The first meeting went as well as possible and Beau seemed to be just fine with his new roommate. Over the past couple days I have watched them cuddle, give each other kisses and play till their hearts' content. Beau is being a good role model and Lilly is already catching on to our commands.
Here are some pics that our friend Kevin took of the pups yesterday while we were cheering on the Marine Corps Marathon runners.
