After all this practicing, this is the thanks I get? A pulled muscle three days before the biggest show I have this season? No thanks, this is not happening! I am in denial. We practiced last night with a
ferociousness I've never had before. The show is on Friday night and these last couple of days are the "dress
rehearsal" practices. Our showcase number is amazing so far and is designed to delight and thrill the audience with our awesome dance moves. That is, until I dropped into a split las night. And barely made it back up again.
My splits are really nothing to write home about, my hip has limited flexibility due to over stretching and tearing of my hip flexor muscle dancing in High School color guard. The doc said it was tendonitis, and to stop forcing my body to something it doesn't want to do- like splits. My 16-year-old self said to the doctor- sure and up yours. And now my body is paying for it dearly by being totally unflexible and impossible. Some moves we do I have to remind Jonathan- my hip doesn't go that way babe!
But it was getting better and better, less pain, more flex in the last couple of months with all the practice. And I was inspired watching a video of a girl dancing salsa and her just flinging herself on the floor into a split and hopping back up again like it was nothing! So last night, I did the same. I dropped into the split. It was a full one, right down to the floor. I kind of suprised myself the way I just dropped, like it was nothing, and got right back up again. Jonathan was shocked as well and was wondering if he just never noticed how far down I could go. Nope, that has never happened before!
I was thrilled! We ran through the number again and BAM! it happened the second time. On the way up however, my inner thigh felt like it has snapped. I felt a pull in my leg and struggled to get back into the song. I made it through and as soon as it was over I fell over. Done, my leg was done.
I guess that would be my groin muscle. I thought only althetes pulled groin muscles? Am I an althete? I hobbled around for a few minutes wondering what happened. Too much too fast? Not enough of a warm-up? I was through for the night, only briefly running through one section before I had enough.
Today I am sore, limping around like a wounded animal. No heels today. No sudden movements. Sitting on an ice pack and then rubbing it with Ben-Gay. My officemates must think I had way too much fun last night. I'm laughing but still only wondering if this injury will go away on it's own...
