After a fire at our home this year, we were lucky enough to find a nice temporary rental owned by a really nice guy who is also a farmer. Although he does not have animals some of his friends do. We were lucky to be able to buy a 1/4 Angus steer this year and just had our first taste last night.
I hate to see animals tortured in factory farms. I know that this one had a good life and was butchered humanely. In addition it had no antibiotics and was grass-fed up to the end when it had some corn. The meat tasted so much better than anything you can get in the store…or even a steak house!
Buying local also saved on resources and I’m not sure if the farmer is making a ton of money, but we supported LOCAL agriculture. It was also much less expensive than anything you can find in a store and the butchering done locally was well done. That makes a difference on how something cooks.
All I can say is…YUM!
