Herb gardening has been my way of gardening the past few years because I live in a cozy apartment down town Grand Rapids with no plot of land to plant at this point. I dream of a day to have my few-acre garden, but at this point in my life I am enjoying the potted herb plant garden.
I have them in pots on the back porch so they are getting plenty of sunshine and occasional rain. They like lots of sun and water to grown so sometimes I am carrying out a pitcher of water to give them something more to drink. It is a fun way to grow something without any land and it always enriches food with so much fresh flavor, not to mention health benefits.
Herbs carry many essential vitamins in them, along with green chlorophyll and antioxidants.
Some of my favorite herbs: Thyme, Rosemary, Italian Oregano, Basil of all kinds, Cilantro, Sage, Mint, and more Basil (my favorite).
Those are just a a few, and I will add some more under the fresh herbs category. I try and use the fresh herbs every day in a meal during the summer months. It is also kinda a hobbie to me to have the herb garden. It brings color and flavor to my back porch and I enjoy finding new ways to use them in meals and teas. It adds a little bit of "life" to life, which as Dr. Weil would say adds to spontaneous healing in the body. I hope you try having a few plants and let me know if you come up with any great recipes in response.
