While petting my 6-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, I felt a very small, hard lump on her right side located behind and slightly above her right front leg. It's under the skin. I can move it around and it doesn't seem to hurt or bother her at all when I mess with it. It also seems to be between her skin and her muscle tissue beneath. I've felt all around her body and I haven't discovered any other areas of concern.
That lump could be anything from an imbedded BB or pellet to a small tumor to a piece of scar tissue from some previous trauma. Your veterinarian could give you a better answer after an exam
Since I wrote that, I believe now that the lump is more like a bump and is on the skin's surface, not underneath it. It's hard to tell with all the hair. I also found another bump just a couple of inches away from the original one.
