Dear Linda,
It is wonderful that you are caring for your elderly neighbor.
There are many reasons why she may be vomiting in the evening. It would be best for her to see her doctor to rule out serious problems like a blocked intestine, gall bladder disease or ulcers.
Many older people don't digest food as well as when they were younger. Heavy or fried food can especially cause problems. Food allergies can develop at any time in someone's life.
Another possibility is tainted water from a refrigerator dispenser that hasn't been cleaned by a professional. The water reservoir can get moldy just like the inside of the fridge.
Is it possible she is eating tainted food --like re-using a ham bone to make broth? We had a good friend who was doing that and got very ill.
It is important not to let this go on. Your neighbor could become seriously dehydrated and malnourished.
Best to you,
CK Wilde

I am caring for my 84 year old neighbour who is very frail, she manages with great difficulty to get food down, but has started vomitting it all up each night before or as we are settling her down for the night. Can you tell me why?
