This diets that work was developed in 1940 by Stanley Burroughs originally to cure a stomach ulcer. Stanley Burroughs was an alternative health practitioner and in 1976 he wrote The Master Cleanser and promoted it as a weight loss program as well as helping to correct other disorders and diseases. In 2004 Peter Glickman rewrote the book in a more understandable format called Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days.
This diet will work for you if you follow the instructions, as any fast will cause you to lose weight! With the Master Cleanse Diet you will consume sugar-containing lemonade and between 650 to 1,300 calories a day. On average you will lose up to two pounds per week.
Fasting is not harmful if done over a limited number of days. Prolonged periods of fasting will deplete muscles, which includes your heart. Long periods of fasting can damage your liver and kidneys.
This diet takes a minimum of ten days. The only things you consume during the diet include a lemonade concoction that is made from lemon juice, cayenne pepper, maple syrup and water. You will drink between six to twelve glasses of the drink per day. You will also drink an herbal laxative tea in the evenings that is made with one quart along with one quart of salt water that you drink the first thing every morning. To make the lemonade mix you will need two tablespoons fresh lemon juice, two table spoons maple syrup, 1/10 teaspoon cayenne pepper and eight ounces of medium hot water.
