The
Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that the standard Medicare Part B monthly premium will be $96.40 in 2009. This is the same as 2008 and the first time since 2000 that there was no increase in the standard premium over the previous year. This monthly premium applies to beneficiaries who file an individual tax return with income with income equal to or less than $85,000 (or a joint return less then or equal to $170,000). Those in higher income brackets pay higher monthly premiums.
