I walked onto the ward yesterday, chatting with the aides a bit.

“Wayne sure likes hugging.” I laughed and had to explain – “It’s my bribery to get him to do anything, especially personal care.”

Whenever I bathe him and he’s getting short of patience with the whole thing, I ask if may have a hug. He laughs and agrees. After his using the toilet, as I’m arranging his underthings, I hug him and talk like mad to distract him.

Little white lies slip in to get the job done, too. Tell him he’s so warm and sweating, a wash would feel good. the best thing to do is sit him on the toilet and wash his back and neck – probably does feel good. One has to be Speedy Gonzales, though. He is always ready to bolt.

Anyway, gave me a chuckle and now they have an explanation about their huggy patient.
