Personally that's a hard decision. Tissue isn't always around, but I've heard faucet handles are some of the dirtest places in bathrooms. However that is all mitigated by the fact that you wash your hands right after you turn it on. I would guess it really is personal preference.

If you are talking about public restrooms, it might be a good idea to use a tissue or paper towel to turn off the faucet and prevent spreading colds and flu.  In our own homes, I'm convinced that cotton towels shared by family members are more of a problem than the faucet handle.

Separate towels, or frequently changed towels, help prevent the spread of illness along with correct hand washing. I taught my children to sing the ABC song while handwashing so they would wash long enough.

Did you know that recent studies show that the typical family kitchen has more germs than the bathroom? Food born illness is often mistaken for the flu. Regular cleaning of sink and food prep areas is absolutely necessary for healthy living.
