what causes burning sensations in the nipples?

About two weeks ago i felt a burning sensation in my left nipple after a few hours it went away. Every few days or so the burning sensation comes back and stops within hourse. What could it mean??????

I had the same thing happen to me and after having a mammogram and breast ultrasound to rule out a rare form of breast cancer, it turning out being related to stress.  After those things are ruled out for you, then all you have to do is take a xanax and within 20-30 minutes it goes away.  Mine would also cause my nipple to become errect and sometimes turn purple-ish. 

Also, work on learing breathing techniques to control your stress, as meds are not a permanent fix.  Good Luck!
