After a week of upper respiratory congestion, intermittent evening oral temperatures up to 100.5° F, today, I had new noises coming from my chest. I feared that it was pneumonia, so I went to the hospital to get it checked out. The doctor heard the noise in the lower part of my right lung and ordered a chest x-ray. The x-ray showed a dark area, so he had a specialist look at it too. Diagnosis: Acute Bronchitis Prescription: Zithromax (Azithromycin) 250 mg, Six pack (four day dose) The doctor said that the dark area may be from GVHD of the lung. I have a Pulmonary Function Test (PFT) every six months to check for that condition. I did get a little emotional when I had to put on that hospital gown again today. And then being wheeled down to X-ray on that gurney brought back memories that I wish I could forget. But I am very happy to report; Not Pneumonia! No hospital stay tonight.
The skin on my arms, legs and feet is not as tight as it once was but there appears to be more dark blotchy spots. (cGvHD of the skin)
I don't have anywhere near the strength that I used to. I have been told that bone marrow transplant patients, both allogeneic and autologous, can expect reduced strength and stamina as a common side effect.
I hope that my legs get stronger and the pains in my joints go away. This warmer weather makes me want to go out and walk and enjoy the great outdoors again. :-)
Thank you for reading this post and for joining me in this walk through this wild experience called LIFE! :-)
