Sex And The Senior Citizen Panelist Rabbi Ed with Dr Veronica and Others

Posted Mar 25 2011 11:38pm

"Sex and the Senior Citizen" was a recent online radio program that aired on March 23rd, 2011. I was pleased to be one of six expert guests invited to serve as a panelist for this upbeat "happening."

In discussing sex and the senior citizen, I readily agree with another panelist who declared that aging is an adventure, interpersonally and sexually. Speaking as a gerontologist, healthcare educator and intimacy coach, I would add that this is so, even when an illness like prostate cancer or some other disease strikes.

Who is Dr. Veronica, and what additional views did we share?  To find out I urge you to listen to the show's recording. But first let me tell you a bit more.

Dr. Veronica, M.D., is a budding celebrity who runs a program called "Wellness and the Real World."

She's a trained opthomologist turned radio host. All of us on her panel are authors AND youngish "seniors" whom she interviewed in 15 minute segments about getting older and sexier.

One of the views we panelists affirmed is that for all of us our sexual interests and desires for intimacy remain unabated.

To hear the audio replay just highlight, cut and paste the following link into your web browser and you can hear the show for yourself.: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/wellnessfortherealworld/2011/03/23/sex-and-the-senior-citizen.

As Dr. V's program notes indicate, babyboomers are not through revolutionizing our society. Now, as they start to become seniors at age 65, they are taking along their expectations of an active, fulfilling sex life.

Having grown up with The Pill, today's younger and older seniors have a different mindset about sex from their parents: intimacy, romance, even recreation. And that other pill (the little blue one) doesn't hurt either.

Even nursing homes are now adopting policies so they don't "interrupt" their patients' private moments. Guests are  Joan Price , author of Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk about Sex After Sixty,  Hattie Wiener , author of Sex and the Single Senior: A Cougar's Search for Love, author/psychiatrist/sex therapist  Susan Delphine Delaney , age transition specialist  Patricia Weaver , psychologist  Dr. Michael Nuccitelli  and myself, Rabbi Ed Weinsberg  (Conquer Prostate Cancer: How Medicine, Faith, Love and Sex Can Renew Your Life).

Listen to our lively conversation and stick around to the end so you can hear me wrap up the show in response to Dr. Veronica's final interview comments. Whether you're a boomer or senior - or much younger, you'll be able to review or preview erotic possibilities that can be yours to enjoy.

"Sex and the Senior Citizen" is a show you'll never forget. This is the most honest expose you're ever likely to hear about this extremely vital subject. A show worth listening to, it will open your eyes...and your ears!
