recent esophagectomy, cough near constantly, can't sleep, get dry heaves. what causes this

I had adenocarcinoma of the esophageal sphincter. This was 6 weeks ago. I have a cough and I cant talk well because I cough. I cough after I eat and even when I do not. I get the dry heaves about every 2 days.

Can't sleep because of the coughing.
