Zach DeRidder is a finalist for the LIVESTRONG.COM Dare To Contest through YouTube. His story is one of 12 being considered for the winning selection.
Zach is a 23 year old liver cancer survivor who has been fighting the disease for nearly 3 years. Before his diagnosis Zach was an athlete, but amazingly Zach did not let cancer put an end to that. Despite the severity of his illness in the summer of 2007 Zach decided he was going to fight his like an athlete. He competed in 8 triathalons, 1 duathalon, 1 century bike ride and 6 foot races all while undergoing treatment. His story is told in a video created by his friend, Tim who along with his friend Michael also created ZHOPE.org to tell his story. The video contest is just another way to share Zach's inspiring story with others.
Starting September 15th Zach's video and the 11 other finalists videos will be featured on Livestrong.com. At that time voting will open and visitors to the site will be begin and visitors will be asked to vote for their favorite video. The winner will then be announced on September 23, winning not only the inclusion of the story on LIVESTRONG.COM but a racing bike autographed by Lance Armstrong. For Zach, who sees Lance as the ultimate inspiration in his plans to fight back – this would be the sweetest prize of all.
