Partial seizure? I can deal

Posted Dec 29 2009 12:00am
I forgot to mention that I had a simple partial seizure on Dec. 9.

I was on the computer (probably using or something equally time-wasting) when suddenly my right hand felt like it didn't belong to me.

I've had a tiny bit of limb on my right side ever since the second , so at first I was amused. But then I felt a tingly "aura" hovering around the borders of my thoughts. My seizure auras feel like time has slowed down. (Sorry for the weird description but it's the best I can do to explain what it feels like.)

As soon as I knew I was starting to have a seizure I thought, "Fuck this! I am taking ."

is a super strong prescription anti-anxiety medication, and is the first thing administered to someone having a seizure in an emergency room or hospital. Super Awesome Nurse prescribed for me and I've only taken it during seizures.

So I took the , sat on the bed, and turned on the radio to distract me. I called out to Brett, "Hey, just so you know I am having a seizure."

Over the next few minutes I felt a pulsing in my hand (a neurologist would call it a Jacksonian march ), but the pulsing subsided and things went back to normal.

Fortunately I had just seen my medical team the week prior to this mild seizure, and my MRI looked good. Super Awesome Nurse and neurologist Dr. P both felt that there was no significance to the incident, and I agreed with them.
