Out of the Hospital

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:35pm
While Richard was in the hospital, he developed blood in his urine. It wasn't much, but any bleeding is a concern when platelets are low, so he was scheduled to see a urologist. In the meantime his WBC started to come up, meaning that his new bone marrow was starting to engraft. This is a good thing. Anyone who has had a stem cell transplant has that fear that maybe it won't take; the cells won't reproduce and then what? So it's a relief when those numbers start to come up. Here's the count:

After his counts started up, the mouth sores healed rapidly and he was able to eat; not very much and mostly liquids, but he was able to get in the required 1000 caloories a day to get off TPN. Out of the hospital and back to the apartment. Crisis number one resolved.
