Myeloma World Tour, Iowa, Washington, DC, & Colorado

Posted Jan 14 2009 8:36pm

My home is Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sounds boring, but it's a really nice place to live and raise kids. It's in the east central part of Iowa and is the second largest city in Iowa with about 100,000 people. And I really wish I was there now! Richard and I have been living in Rochester, MN since October 10. On October 25, he had an allogenic transplant with a matched unrelated donor. I hope to get to more details about the transplant after I catch up on his myeloma history in this blog. The picture is a Mayo Clinic building.

Anway, back to the world tour. I wish I had some Iowa photos, but I'm writing this on my laptop and the photos I have on it are from our Washington, DC and Colorado vacations. So I'll show you a couple of those.

This is me, Teresa, in Washington, DC, at the Smithsonian Sculpture Garden. We loved all the museums.

This was taken at the new WW II Memorial. Every state has a wreath. It's very beautiful and even more impressive at night.

This is a partial family picture. The background is the bridge over the Royal Gorge in Colorado. In the front row in the Iowa shirt is our daughter Erin. Next to her is Richard, then me. To my right is my sister Kathy. In the back are my nephew's wife Kim, nephew Dan, nephew Jake, brother in law Tim, my other sister Ludy, and brother in law Dave. Every summer we go to a major league baseball game. This year it was Denver and the Rockies.

Well, that's my part of the World Tour. If I ever get home to my other computer, I'll post some Iowa pictures. I hope everyone will participate in the tour. It's a great idea. And check back here for more of our story.

Iowa Pictures (Added 1/19/06)

I'm home now and back to my big computer so here are some Iowa pictures as promised. These are from last winter. This was the view into my back yard. It's in the city but in a wooded area, so we have lots of wild life.

We feed the birds and the deer.

We really shoudn't feed the deer. They are really bold and walk right down the middle of the street. They can be a real driving hazard. Cedar Rapids had an urban deer kill this winter to thin out the urban deer population. Probably necessary but unpleasant to think about.

Here are some pictures of the Loess Hills in Western Iowa. These land formations are unique. The history is interesting. Follow the link to read more about them.
Love the hat!

At the other end of the state is Dubuque. Some attractions there include The National Mississippi River Museum.

and the Fenelon Place Elevator.

Well, that's it for my part of the tour. Please leave a comment and read the rest my ongoing blog-in-progress.
