My local sports team (the Philadelphia Eagles) is surely better than your local sports team, but it has nothing to do with rankings, divisions or playoffs.
Although my loyalty to the Eagles was challenged this year as a result of the decision to bring convicted dog-abuser Michael Vick onto the team, they have more-than redeemed themselves in my eyes. Together, the Philadelphia Eagles and Teva Pharmaceuticals donated $11,000 to the Kevin J. Snyder Memorial Foundation. Kevin Snyder, who lived in Philadelphia, died of Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumors in 1995, at age 9. His family has created the foundation in his name, which donates to AT/RT research, maintains a scholarship fund in Kevin's honor and this year plans to help local families at Christmas.
I am not the only one in the Martin family who will be pleased with this news. The Queenling herself never forgot the green on game days, and her Swoop still sits on my desk presiding over my work.
