This report on our BBC local news made me both pleased and a little bit sad. I am pleased that radiotherapy can be easier – I really think the collateral damage is thoroughly underestimated. (Because – y’know – it’s not as bad as chemotherapy! And clinicians say it that way, sometimes with smiley face icons and a double thumbs-up in the subtext too.)
And I am sad because the money to do this has been raised by a charity. I know the world is tough, and the NHS is stretched, and everything, but I really wish for a world in which charities are funding things like comfortable chemotherapy chairs and foot massages rather than bits of life-saving kit.
Still. I am glad, and grateful, for this machine. Although I hope I never need it.
