On this page you will find links to important articles on the management of prostate cancer that you might want to read. Many of these are review articles rather than basic research articles since these reviews tell you about the most current research available at the time they were published but they don’t swamp you with detail. The articles are classified by topic.
Why Treat Early Stage Disease?
Original article: Johansson J-E, Andrén O, Andersson J-O, et al. Natural history of early, localized prostate cancer. JAMA 2004;292:2713-2719. Provides clear evidence justifying the early treatment of carefully selected, appropriate men with a life expectancy of ≥15 years.
Original article: Bill-Axelson A, Holmberg L, Ruutu M, et al. Radical prostatectomy versus watchful waiting in early prostate cancer. N Engl J Med. 2005;352:1977-1984. The only large, randomized, multicenter clinical trial completed to date that compares any two forms of management for patients with early state (localized) disease.

This article provides an overview of current information about the use of intermittent hormone therapy as compared to continuous androgen deprivation.
