My 62-yr-old friend just had his first colonscopy. They discovered an "apricot-sized" tumor in his upper colon. He will know if it's malignant tomorrow. Regardless, he will be scheduled for surgery to remove it laporscopically (sp?) sometime in the next 3 weeks and was told he will be in the hospital for 3-5 days. Please tell me the seriousness of this diagnosis considering the size/placement of tumor - survival rate, etc. And if chemotherapy might be an advantage. He lives in the San Louis Obispo area of California and says they have many good surgeons there but I wonder if he should opt for Stanford for top notch hospital nearby?
