Happy Birthday Annie!

Posted Aug 24 2008 9:49pm
Happy Birthday to my sweet Annie! She is now 11 years old - that's 77 years old in dog years. My dog is now older than my dad :) I keep telling Annie she doesn't look a day over 50.

Annie has been taking very good care of me. During the day, if I lay in bed with her, she will wash my face and arms like I am her puppy. She is a very loving girl.

I got to talk with Carolyn on Friday about my thyroid ultrasound and the PET scan. She isn't worried about the thyroid ultrasound report. She is ordering a PET scan, which will pick up on any possible metastases issues. Her opinion is that if the PET scan shows that the only cancer in my body is in the kidney - then I need to take the risks and have the radical nephrectomy. If the PET scan shows metastases, then surgery isn't a viable option. She indicated that the PET scan will give us an idea of the aggression of this cancer too. So, here's hoping that we can get this PET scan done soon.

Spring is almost here - its going to be 58 degrees here tomorrow and next Sunday we turn the clocks ahead. My favorite time of year is almost here! I think I like Spring most because it is so anticipated. Though I do love the snow - a little goes a long way. With Spring comes my Skywarn Storm Spotter Training on March 19th. I hope that I am feeling well enough to attend. It is only a 2 hour class - but it is about 35 miles from home and that is a long time to be bouncing around in a car for me. So, we will have to see how I am feeling.

Depending on the determination for disability, which my Medicaid determination hinges upon, we may have to start thinking about a fundraiser to get the $1,450 for the surgeons fee as well as to have a buffer for medication if I am denied. I haven't a clue about doing a fundraiser - and I can't imagine we would make much money off of it. There are always people in my community who are having fundraisers for medical bills. Money is tight around here - so I don't know how that would work out.

I'm pretty tired today - I am off to feed Shannon breakfast then relax in the recliner and take a nap. I really wish my liver would go back to normal size so I could get more comfortable. Prednisone didn't work - so Carolyn told me to discontinue it. I am really getting tired of filling prescriptions that don't work. Chock it up to one more pill bottle in my linen closet pharmacy.
