October 25 was the second anniversary of Richard's allogenic transplant.
There have been many issues this year, most notably the destruction of the tear producing mechanism in both his eyes by GVHD. We had to cancel our trip to Hawaii. Fortunately this has been controlled with specialized contact lenses.
Recently, he had cataract surgery which was successful and without complications.
The long term use of steroids has caused generalized muscle wasting and muscle weakness. The neuropathy from thalidomide, Revlimid, and dex continues. It gets more difficult for him to do things like yardwork. He's given up feeding the birds because it's risky for him to walk down the stairs from our back deck.
He's tired all the time.
The Revlimid continues to control the myeloma,.
I still believe that he would not still be here without both transplants. But his quality of life, and indirectly mine, is getting worse.
We both continue to look ahead with hope for the future. We continue to fight the beast.....
